Saint Angela's Vision
Saint Angela Merici (1474 – 1540) is the founder of the Ursulines, the first teaching order to be established by the Church. She was born in Lombardy, one of three children, and received a good education from her parents, a pious couple not overburdened with this world’s goods. Her parents died when she was ten years old and the three children went to live with a wealthy uncle. Three years later her older sister died. After feverous prayer on behalf of her deceased sister, a vision was granted to Saint Angela showing that she was in Heaven with the saints. In gratitude for her sister’s salvation, Saint Angela consecrated herself to God and carried on a life of poverty and service. Her principal work was the setting up of schools and the teaching of poor children
