Please pray for our country!

During the Sept. 8 press briefing, a White House reporter asked press secretary Jen Psaki if the federal government will intervene in Texas’ Heartbeat Bill.

However, the reporter referred to the intervention as a “Hail Mary,” one of the most commonly used prayers of petition and praise to the Mother of God.

Football players also use the ‘Hail Mary pass’ amid emergency circumstances during games. It originated when Catholic players invoked Our Lady’s intercession before scoring touchdowns.

The reporter also happened to ask the question on the Nativity of the Blessed Mother, or the day the Church celebrates Our Lady’s birthday.

“For women who are in Texas right now who might be in need of having an abortion, perhaps are looking at this White House for a ‘Hail Mary’ intervention,” the reporter says. “The clock is ticking for them–the clock is literally ticking for them today.

“In terms of their decision making, can this administration offer any help to them now? What would you tell these women who are looking to this White House to help them? Is help on the way?”

Psaki answers, “We would tell them first that this law is a violation of your rights. And we are going to do everything we can to provide assistance as quickly as we can.”

About the Texas Heartbeat Act

The Texas Heartbeat Act is the first of its kind in the United States, banning abortion after a fetal heartbeat is detected. The bill went into effect on Sept. 1 after the Supreme Court denied a temporary halt on the law.

The United States Department of Justice announced a lawsuit against the ban on Sept. 9.

Catholic Church teaching on abortion

“Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person – among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2270)

“Since the first century, the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law…” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2271)

Pray for an end to abortion!

Our Lady of Guadalupe, please pray for and protect the unborn!
